Melancholie - Verlangen Verlangen

TAPE 2013 by Zwaertgevegt

1: Wintermelancholie
2: Call of Winter
3: Het tranenmeer
4: Verlangen
5: Wenn das Wald mein einige Liebe ist

Review: Fuck this intro of eight minutes. If I’d listen to this on tape instead of mp3 I would have thrown this one in the trash by now… Melancholie has one hell of making up to do at this point! But does it? No, it fucking does not! The music of Melancholie is, as expected, drawing from feelings of melancholy, but it just leaves me feeling sad (and not in a ‘doom’ or even ‘goth’ way). Moody guitar lines ooze out of the speakers as rancid wine. The sound of the tracks is way off balance, and really not a joy to listen to, but perhaps joy was never a keyword here! There are some nice riffs here, scattered around in the songs, which, combined, would’ve made one great song… Anyway… I suspect the first song to be (nearly) instrumental, just like other songs rarely host vocals. And if they do, they’re buried behind the instruments, so I could be mistaking when not hearing someone screaming. At least there is consistency, the band leaves us with ten fucking minutes of ongoing outro! Verlangen means longing, but it’s not this band I long for.
