As far as I’m concerned Urfaust is one of the best black metal bands walking around on this miserable ball of mud. With its hypnotising sound and originally strange but always magnificent vocals, there is not a single release of Urfaust not capable of getting my mind away from the mundane. Even though this mini-cd only has three songs to offer, this is another one of those pieces that are a must for everyone with a real interest in underground black metal; hell for everyone with an attraction to dark music. And it is nicely put on a black plastic disc, instead of a normal silver one.

Urfaust - Einsiedler Einsiedler

mlp 2009
label: Ván Records

1: IX: Der Einsiedler
2: Verderber

Although I really had to adjust to the crispy clear production of this mini-album (pressed on beautiful white vinyl as well), I quickly realised I had bought yet another superb release of hypnotising music by one of my favourite artists from the Netherlands: Urfaust. The first track is the strongest of the two, but the other one is better than many products that claim to be hypnotising and trance-inducing. It's still hard to describe the band with its uniquely buzzing guitar, eerie vocals, and low-tempo music. If you ever get across this one on vinyl, spend your money at once. My thanks go out to IX and Verderber for not giving up this band!
